1. The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of Smt. Zohra Sehgal. In his condolence message to her daughter, Ms. Kiran Sehgal, the President has said, “Smt. Zohra Sehgal was a veteran actress, theatre artist and TV personality. 2. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns called on the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today. Mr. Burns delivered a letter from President Obama to Prime Minister. In his letter, President Obama reiterated his invitation to Prime Minister to visit Washington in September and to work closely with Prime Minister to make India-U.S. relations a defining partnership for the 21st Century. 3. The value of India targeted mergers and acquisitions (M&A) rose 46.8 per cent to $17.1 billion in the first half of 2014 from $11.6 billion posted during the same period a year ago. About 78 per cent of the value came in during the second quarter alone. About 63 deals took place in Q2 valued at $13.4 billion following two deals above $3 billion, according to a study by Mergermarket, an intelligence service on M&A. 4. A controversial Bill that paves the way for the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh by merging some villages and mandals of Telangana with Seemandhra was approved in the Lok Sabha today, amid stiff opposition from the TRS, BJD and some other parties. 5. Sugar production for the 2014-15 season starting October is projected to be 4 per cent higher at 25.3 million tonnes, according to preliminary estimates by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), the apex industry body. For the current 2013-14 season ending September, the production was pegged at around 24.3 million tonnes. 6. Andhra Pradesh will have an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) soon. This was announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Union Budget Proposals for 2014-15 on Thursday. 7. After growing at an average annual rate of just over 6 per cent from 1980 to 2010, India’s economy is now the 10th biggest in the world in terms of gross domestic product, according to the World Bank. However, its growth has slowed in recent years, with an expansion of 4.7 per cent in 2013-2014, up from 4.5 per cent the previous year, the slowest pace in the previous decade. 8. Delhi has become the world’s second most populous city in 2014 after Tokyo, more than doubling its population since 1990 to 25 million, according to a UN report. The 2014 revision of the World Urbanisation Prospects launched yesterday said India is projected to add the highest number of people to its urban population by 2050, ahead of China. 9. Amul has inked an agreement with the Indian Olympic Association to sponsor the Indian contingent for the upcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games to be held later this year in South Korea. 10. Resenting his transfer from Mizoram “without consulting him”, Nagaland Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman today resigned from the post. The 86-year-old Congress veteran told that he sent his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee this morning. |

Navy get first indigenous anti submarine warship INS Kamorta[12/07/2014]
Ready to protect the waters, India's first indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta is handed over to the Indian Navy on 12th July 2014. INS Kamorta, first in its class of four ASW corvettes being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, Kolkata under Project-28 for the Navy, is the first warship ever built in the country with almost 90 per cent of indigenous content. It is also the first warship manufactured in India with indigenously developed special grade high-tensile steel produced by state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission announced for rural areas[12/07/2014] With a focus on building rural infrastructure, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his maiden budget said, "The Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission will be launched to deliver integrated project based infrastructure in the rural areas." This will also include development of economic activities and skill development. "The preferred mode of delivery would be through PPPs while using various scheme funds. |
